Sam has been a part of the Robinson Bethel Methodist Church since 2015. He and wife, Susan, came to the church from the Church of the Nazarene. The Shrefflers have pastored since 2003. During this time, Sam worked bi-vocationally. In 2014 he completed 35 years with Brazos Electric Power Cooperative in Waco. In retirement from secular employment he has been free to devote full time to ministry. In 2015 the Shrefflers were led to be a part of the Bethel Methodist congregation in Robinson.
Having spent a majority of their married life in lay ministry, Sam and Susan have gained the perspectives of both laypersons and preachers. The emphasis of Bethel on leadership by the lay people of the church has provided a place for the Shreffler’s experience to be applied. Both Sam and Susan have found areas of ministry that are very rewarding. Music is an important part of their lives, and they contribute to worship services with their vocal and instrumental participation.
Most of Sam’s educational background is concentrated in the area of Pastoral Ministry. He has earned a Bachelor of Arts from Nazarene Bible College, and a Master of Arts from Northwest Nazarene University. Susan grew up in the Robinson area and graduated from Robinson High School. She is a Registered Nurse, with degrees from Texas State Technical College in Waco, and McLennan County Community College. Being able to find their ministry in Robinson has been particularly rewarding, and they give thanks to God for this blessing. Sam and Susan have one son, Steven, also a graduate of Robinson High School. He and wife, Melissa, reside in Hamilton with their children, Lee, KC, Julia, Maaike, and Vala.
